King
Charles House, New Street, Worcester (near friar
street)
This is one of the city's most historic buildings. It
was from this house that King Charles II made his escape
through the back door, closely pursued by Cromwell's
forces to exile in France, after his defeat in the Battle
of Worcester in 1651
Nowadays
the building is a restaurant. The restaurant itself
boasts a dungeon on the ground floor in which Judge
William Berkeley supposedly kept his victims who awaited
trial.
This building is beautifully presented all year round,
with vibrant colours in the hanging baskets on the outside
in the summer, to the interior decor and attention to
detail.
