Aston Villa F.C.
Aston Villa FC

There are two professional football teams in the city of Birmingham. One is Birmingham City F.C. and the other is Aston Villa. Both play in the Premier League.

Aston Villa was founded by members of the Villa Cross Wesleyan Chapel in 1874. In just a short space of time, by 1880, they had become one of the best teams in the West Midlands. It would go on to become one of the best and most well known clubs in English football history.

Supporters refer to the team as 'The Villa' or 'The Villains'.  The club has had a fairly turbulent history having started off well and being one of the top teams of the inaugural Football League in 1888. By 1920 the team had won the League Championships and the FA Cup six times.

There followed a period where nothing went right for the team. It wasn't until 1957 before they won another major trophy, the FA Cup. However, in recent times the club has fared much better and has a respectable and impressive track record in the Premier League.

Villa Park, near Aston Manor in Birmingham, is home to the club in Trinity Road. The impressive grounds and facilities feature a pitch size of 115 x 72 yards with a seated capacity of 42,640.

Aston Villa is one of only four English football teams that have won the European Cup. Further details, history and fixtures can be found at the official website:
