Streetly used to be an agricultural area. This
is still reflected by the open spaces that still
exist in Streetly although it has now grown into
an established residential suburb of Walsall.
Streetly borders Sutton Coldfield and has good
access to the main road network.
Streetly gets its name from Ryknield Street, the
site of an old roman road. A settlement has existed
here since Saxon times. During medieval times
Streetly was owned by the Earl of Warwick who
owned a Manor House in Sutton Coldfield. After
the war Streetly developed rapidly and many of
the buildings and particularly the residential
areas of Streetly are constructions from the 1950's
and 1960's.
