Staffordshire
is an amazingly diverse county. The well known potteries
and famous names like Wedgwood are known the world over.
The meaning of the word stafford is 'ford by a landing
place'. The first part of the word in old English would
have been 'staeth' or river bank. The landing place
is most likely to have been at Bridge Street where the
river Sow is most narrow.
The links here will illustrate just how much there is
to see in Staffordshire. Key areas to visit should be
Cannock and the infamous Cannock Chase with its 3000
acres of woods and heathland, Stafford and Stoke on
Trent, Lichfield, Tamworth with its interesting castle
and Burton on Trent with its brewing history. The Burton
Festival is a must if you find yourself there at the
right time.
Home
of Alton Towers, Weston Hall, Shugborough Hall, Stafford
Castle and a host of museums and historical sites you
will find plenty to do come rain or shine.
