Shopping in the UK - Are we being ripped off?

We hear lots of statements about rip off Britain and the fact that Britain is more expensive than many other countries including those in Europe and close to home. Well this is certainly true of spirits, tobacco and petrol but what about everything else?

Our Forum Message Board gives you the chance to voice your opinion. Let people know what you think of rip off Britain, if indeed the statement is true. Have you got proof that we are being ripped off?

Are we paying too much for our cars, are our supermarkets charging us too much? What about the cost of insurance in the UK or your local community rates?

How far does your money go?

Money is so easy to spend and despite all the bad news there are bargains to be had. In some cases Britain can actually be good value for money. We will have to be careful here at risk of sounding too positive and ruining the credibility of this website.

Got an interesting story you would like to share with us?

British Supermarkets

This is one area where there is certainly competition and you could be led to believe that we are getting good value for money here. However, is this value for money being achieved at the expense of quality? Just how good are British supermarkets? Which are the best?

Is is snob value that determines the prices? Would you be seen dead at LIDL or Netto or do you prefer to pay more at Waitrose or Marks and Spencers?

Stuck for Choice?

Just where are the best places to shop and where are the worst? Are you an experienced shopper and a qualified price watch eagle? Help us out here.

If you know of some bad places to avoid or have had some nasty experiences with UK High Street Traders or have been ripped off then tell the world!

Holiday Rip Offs

Why should foreign holiday prices and plane travel prices increase at peak holiday times when the kids are off school? This is a clear example of a blatant rip off that affects those who could most do with a holiday - families. What are your views on this?

Holidays in the UK are also subject to this hike in prices and it seems that this has become the acceptable norm. Just what can be done about this if anything?
