OK so they want you to stuff envelopes or work from home? You have just received an email from some slimeball telling you that he has the best kept secret on the internet and wants to show you the road to fortune? Well...what person in their right mind would contact a complete stranger to share with them for nothing the secrets of a successful business venture that works? Who do they think they are kidding? Call me sceptical but....
An email arrives in your mailbox from ex President Mbongo Nmbabwi of Nigeria wanting you to clear untold millions in US dollars? Believe it or not these schemes actually catch people out....

Goods and Services
We have all heard horror stories about market traders but what about the rogues that hang around car boot sales selling dangerous electrical goods and equipment that just doesn't work when you get it home. You try taking back a faulty item and all you get is verbal abuse or worse!
Even high street retail outlets have been known to rip off the general public, I mean Ratners jewellery was crap wasn't it? |

Ending up in the clink - A myth?
Very few of the scam merchants actually end up in jail. Trading Standards often just don't have the manpower, the will, or the teeth to deal with the crooks. Crime actually does pay!
In order to end up in jail you will really have to work hard at it and blatantly abuse the rules. Sadly abusing the rules is so easy and downright fraud is often ignored or just not of any interest to the authorities. |

Door to door double glazing
We have all come across double glazing sales reps, persistant Jehovah's Witnesses and Utility sales personnel. These guys have a job to do and some can be quite entertaining and pleasant. Others can be a downright pain in the ass and can barely string two words together. Should door to door cold calling or phone calls be allowed or should they be treated as an invasion of our privacy?
Never fear, if they don't get you when your at home and you think you are safe because you hid behind the curtains when they rang your bell they will get you with the junk mail!
