Perry Barr is a high density residential and retail area near the city centre on the North West side of the city. This is home to the University of Central England, the One Stop Shopping Centre and the Alexander Stadium. The Greyhound Stadium is also at Perry Barr.

Housing tends to be mixed with plenty of older properties and more modern estates. Redevelopment and modernisation of the Perry Barr area continues and many improvments are taking place. Much of the housing around the University of Central England is rented to students.
