Penzance is an ancient market town and is only ten miles from Land's
End. The name Penzance comes from the Cornish language and means "Holy
Headland".
Both a market town
and fishing town Penzance is a popular tourist destination. The sea
front and harbour attract visitors and the town has a long promenade
and busy shopping area. This is Cornwall's largest westerly town.

Penzance has a long
history of smugglers and wreckers. Gilbert & Sullivan named their
production "The Pirates of Penzance" after the town.
