Morecambe
Bay is a popular tourist destination in Lancashire. It has
traditionally attracted visitors from Yorkshire and Scotland and whilst
not as popular as Blackpool it was regarded as one of the best seaside
towns.
Eric
Morecambe is one of the towns most famous people. There is a statue of
him by the sea to commemorate his life.
Morecambe
used to have two piers. Unfortunately one was demolished in a storm and
the other by fire. Several attractions have opened and closed in
Morecambe including The World of Crinkley Bottom, Bubbles Waterworld
and Frontierland. Efforts to create a Blackpool type entertainment
centre do not seem to have worked well in Morecambe.
There is
a reasonable beach and plenty of good facilities in Morecambe. There
are regular train links and ferry services to the Isle of Man.
Unfortunately Morecambe seems to be a seaside town on the decline and
in need of some vibrant injection of something to make it
buzz.
