Jerome Klapka Jerome was born in Caldmore, Walsall on 2nd May 1859.
Jerome K Jerome Birthplace ( formerly the Jerome Birthplace Museum ) is
situated at Belsize House in Bradford Street. This is a Grade II listed
building which was restored in the 1980's.
Jerome was an English writer and humorist who wrote Three Men in a Boat
and other works. The building now houses memorabilia and Jerome's
uniform from his military service.
The museum was in danger of closure and in a bad state of repair due to
the local council withdrawing funding. However, Edmunds and Co
solicitors purchased the building and have restored it professionally
and provided better access for those interested in visiting.
At long last a blue heritage plaque has been fixed to the building.
