Trip over in most countries and someone will rush to your aid. In Britain it is more likely that the folk around you will erupt in laughter or smile at your misfortune. Why do we British find it so comforting and humorous to fall around in stitches when something unfortunate happens to someone else?

This kind of warped humour extends to the foreign visitor trying to express himself. A few words in any language abroad will inspire a keen interest to assist you and thoughtful and helpful assistance is guaranteed. Over here smiles at the funny accent are only superceded by the equally if not more disconcerting insistance on speaking English in an equally funny accent by normally intelligent Brits.

Your street cred in Britain is in serious danger unless you dress slovenly in track suit bottoms or jeans or take the extreme and be very conventional with a suit and tie approach. This of course only applies to normal every day Brits as pop stars and famous people can be as radical as they wish.
