The Gower Heritage
Centre is built around a water powered cornmill and set in the heart of
the Gower Peninsula.
This visitor attraction is a rural life museum with a fully working
12th century water mill. The mill was built over 800 years ago by a
William de Breos who was a knight from Normandy in France. The Heritage Centre features a blacksmith, wheel-wright and carpentry workshops.
Coffins were even made here!.
The millers cottage
has been occupied by members of the same family for over 300 years. The
mill has been expanded greatly in this time and the centre makes use of
a large tract of land along the valley to its rear.
The range of
activities and fascinating exhibitions are endless, along with craft
shops, tea rooms, an animal enclosure, play areas and numerous items of
old machinery and even a war time air raid shelter. Do not be decieved
by the size of the building or complex from the outside. We cannot
stress this enough. We would recommend this interesting centre as an
ideal stop off point to spend a few hours and unwind. Kids will enjoy
it immensely.
