Science Park
Aston Science Park was one of the first of a new generation of UK
Science Parks when it opened in 1983. Since then, it has grown both in
size and stature, and today is recognised worldwide as a leader in
technological innovation for its encouragement of the advance of
new-age opportunities.
Internationally renowned, Aston Science Park provides
and award-winning environment where fledgling knowledge-based companies
can recieve all the advice, facilities and support necessary to enable
them to become the wealth creators of tomorrow.
Today, the park is home to over 100 companies and the
headquarters of the UK Science Park Association and UK Business
Incubation. Now Aston Science Park provides over 380,000 sq ft of
floorspace, accommodation that suits all levels of business. Companies
that started in the original Business and Innovation centre in the
1980's now take up half of the venture unit space on the park, a
growing reflection of the high success rate of occupants.
Business West Midlands
Famous the world over for its manufacturing history the West Midlands
has retained its manufacturing expertise and diversified into new
sectors. There are many successes too numerous to mention here and
investment from Europe and the USA continues to play an important role
in the future of the region. The regions strengths are illustrated by
the following sectors which contribute a major role in the West
Midlands success story.
Birmingham is associated with the troubled Longbridge
plant and its recent closure. However, it is easy to forget that Rover
is not the only car producer in the West Midlands. We also have Land
Rover, Jaguar and Peugeot all producing cars here.
There are more than 500 car component suppliers in the
region and 40% of all new automotive investment in the UK is in the
West Midlands. The region is responsible for a third of the UK's
automotive output.
