Languages: English (official and dominant), Spanish. The Spanish spoken in Gibraltar is corrupted with many words of Italian and some Hebrew. Some cannot be traced as having any origin outside of Gibraltar. The casual language spoken in the street is a mixture of English and corrupted Spanish often spoken in the same sentence.

Ethnicity: There are no ethnic subdivisions or discriminations in Gibraltar, regardless of one's ancestral origins. With 30,000 people in 3 sq miles there is no room for discriminatory or racist attitudes. When so many people live in such a confined space, tolerance must arise if only as a means of survival. The people of Gibraltar are tolerant and friendly and proud of their historic past.

Nationality: noun: Gibraltarian(s), who also refer to themselves as Janito (the accented vowel is the i) adjective: Gibraltar

Interesting Fact: Did you know that the Gib Chronicle was the second oldest English language newspaper to have been in print continuously, anywhere in the world? The first is the Observer.
