Glassmaking has taken place in Stourbridge for over 400 years. Glass
and Crystal is still made here today. Broadfield House Glass Museum was
opened in 1980 although in the late 18th century the building used to
be a farmhouse surrounded by fields. This is one of the most important glass museums in the world. The displays and exhibitions feature locally made glass and
crystal as well as items from further afield.
Within the building
there is a working glass studio where visitors can watch the
glassblowers at work. Admission to this Museum is free and any trip
should take into account the nearby Red House Glass Cone Visitor Centre where the history of glassmaking is detailed
within one of the world's finest examples of a glass cone building.
