Barr Beacon is part of the Forest of Mercia which used to be known as Beacon Regional Park, a name
given to it as a place where beacon fires were once lit. It is situated on the B1452 near Walsall and Aldridge
and provides excellent panoramic views of the local landscape.
A well known local
landmark of 227 metres in height it is popular with dog walkers, kite
flyers and model aircraft enthusiasts. There are no facilities but
there is ample parking and a pagoda sitting all on its own near the
exit. This is a popular place in the summer although it has a bad
reputation at night being a local lovers lane or venue for other more
dubious adult activities. Best avoided from dusk onwards.
